Hit By The Thunderbolt

It was so long ago, yet because I have relived that day so often, it is only yesterday. A friend of mine knew I was looking for work and offered me a position with his small video production company. It paid gas plus commission and I was going to be trained by the best salesperson on the island.

I don’t want to be late, so I arrive almost an hour early. The building is dark, but the Florida sun is already warm and bright. Her white Grand Am enters the parking lot. After a few minutes of fussing, she emerges.

Curly hair, lightened by exposure, frames a beautiful, tanned face. Without effort, her lips seem to pout. Her light-colored business suit is well fitted, accentuating perfectly symmetrical curves. Her skirt is just above mid-thigh, showing off smooth and toned legs. Legs which encourage you to look higher, even while knowing, but not caring, that there is nothing else to see. My eyes follow as she walks to the entrance. I am mesmerized and hypnotized by the sashay of her gait.

As the Sicilian’s say, ‘I am hit by the thunderbolt.’

I wait in the car until my friend arrives and then enter the building with him. He introduces us. “Meet Sofia Portonova the best salesperson in all of The Keys.”

Jesus Christ, she has such an exotic and elegant name, and mine can’t possibly be any more bland.

She extends her hand. Her touch sends a shiver throughout my body.

“Pleased to meet you.” Jesus Christ, I’m pretty sure she purred.

I shake her hand.

Talk stupid.

Say something.

For Christ’s sake, at least grunt.

Dave is giving me some kind of instructions — his voice sounds like Charlie Brown’s teacher. My mind is in another place. I can’t take my eyes from hers.

Their color — enticing.

The gaze — steely.

Intense intelligence behind breathtaking beauty.

They are both looking at me. I think I was asked a question. I give an awkward smile. I notice a form and pen in Dave’s hand, I take them.

“Where do I sign?”

Who Am I?

I am an independent, self-published teller of tales. I am an author of scarcely any renown. However, as a storyteller, I know who I am, and with that persona, I am both confident and comfortable.
